On November 7th, State Grid Huzhou Power Supply Company applied helicopters to conduct X-ray testing on the ultra-high voltage ± 800 kV Jintang DC transmission line, fully ensuring the safe operation of the power grid and laying the foundation for reliable power supply during peak winter.
It is reported that the ultra-high voltage ± 800 kV Jintang DC transmission line starts from the Baihetan converter station in Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province, passes through five provinces (cities) including Sichuan, Chongqing, Hubei, Anhui, Zhejiang, and ends at the Zhebei converter station in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. The total length is 2140.2 kilometers, and it is a key project to implement the national strategy of "West to East Power Transmission".
Just like X-ray medical diagnosis, transmission line X-ray testing is a non-destructive testing method that utilizes the penetration and absorption characteristics of X-rays to check the internal structure of transmission line components for defects. The object of this inspection is the wire crimping joint on the ± 800 kV Jintang Line. Its crimping quality is difficult to detect through visual inspection, but it will affect the safe operation of the transmission line. On the same day, a helicopter suspended the operators wearing full shielding suits through insulated ropes and flew along the established route to the designated location, accurately dropping the operators onto the ± 800 kV Jintang line with live operation. Immediately, the operators used X-ray machines, control terminals, and other equipment to inspect the designated strain clamp. The entire process takes about 30 minutes, which increases the efficiency by about 80% compared to pure manual operation.
Winter is approaching, in order to ensure the safe operation of the power grid during the peak winter season, State Grid Huzhou Power Supply Company fully applies high-tech equipment and vigorously carries out power grid maintenance operations. In addition to conducting X-ray testing of transmission lines, the company will also use helicopters to carry out a series of work such as replacing shock absorbers and installing online monitoring devices, fully ensuring power supply during peak winter.
